Small business owners are my favorite audience for this simple reason: besides being an author and a speaker, I am the CEO of 2 different businesses... therefore I experience the same day-to-day challenges, frustrations, and setbacks that my audience does.
| |
What do you want people to learn / take away from your presentations?
The truth/no nonsense scoop on what it really takes to build a great team, engage your customers, and embrace change.
What kind of special prep work do you do prior to an event? How to you prepare for your speaking engagements?
| |
6 weeks before an event I have a pre-conference call where I really dig down asking question to gain an understanding of what their business is all about, and what their challenges are. I always end our conversation by asking what their top 3 take-aways would be for their audience to leave with.
When at all possible, I like to sit-in on various sessions the day before the event, so by the time I walk up on stage, I have the best possible sense of peoples concerns as well as their goals moving forward.
Have you had any particularly memorable speaking engagements / unusual situations arise while on the road?
| |
One of my favorite memories was flying to Hong Kong to speak for AT&T. After sound checking the night before, the sound crew (who couldn't speak a lick of English) shut down the entire production and was then 2 hours late the next morning. Although AT&T brought along their own production people, no one could figure out how to turn on the unusual equipment, so we all had a first hand lesson on adapting to the circumstances we're presented with. Once things got underway, it turned out to be a wonderful event.
What types of audiences would most benefit from your message?
Small business owners are my favorite audience for this simple reason, besides being an author and a speaker, I am the CEO of 2 different businesses... therefore I experience the same day-to-day challenges, frustrations, and setbacks that my audience does. Both of my businesses are quite successful and it gives me a great platform for helping people discover solutions to the business challenges they are facing.
What inspired you to become a speaker?
Since I was 17 I have been performing on stage as a musician and concert recording artist. When I was 39 years old, I was dropped from RCA Records and I was preparing to venture into the business world. It was at that same time that I discovered personal development, which made an enormous difference in the success of my first business venture Dark Horse Recording.
Four years after opening our doors at DHR I wrote my first book, Jump And The Net Will Appear. Using my past knowledge for landing recording contracts, I secured a book deal with New World Library who helped make my first book a best seller. The first time I ever spoke was at the Orlando Convention Center at an Amway conference with 6,000 attendees. I've been a keynote speaker ever since.
Which of your keynote speeches do you enjoy the most and why?
Evolve or Die (the title of one of my most recent books) seems to resonate with meeting planners. There is not a single business owner or business executive who is not grappling with the need to consistently innovate and evolve.
What are some of the successes you've helped clients make?
Almost daily I receive emails from attendees sharing some of the actions they have taken after hearing one of my presentations. They'll tell me how they were inspired to step up and take more risks realizing how critical that is in order to evolve and prosper. They'll also tell me how they finally developed the courage to clean house and bring on the right people in order to build a more effective and passionate team. |
"Robin, your keynote performance at our DBIA National Conference was superb! The music following each motivational piece was a restful way to reflect on the message. The feedback from our membership has been extremely positive. Since I was the Conference Planning Committee Chair, I have been receiving personal kudos as well. To the delight of his audiences, Robin Crow loves to incorporate short guitar riffs into his presentations. A gifted storyteller, he peppers his keynotes with real-life stories from his life and others, helping attendees draw life lessons. He packs a lot of practical information into his talks, and yet, his style is almost melodic or poetic as his presence feels more like he’s giving a concert than a presentation.
