PROFILE
  • Global celebrity and former British Special Forces operative, Bear Grylls is known for turning his elite wilderness survival training into gripping edutainment.
  • Grylls' signature television series, Man vs. Wild ran on the Discovery Channel for seven years, drawing an audience of 1.2 billion viewers worldwide.
  • Grylls captivates audiences with his stories of navigating life-or-death situations, motivating them to harness their teamwork and leadership skills to take on real-life challenges as they pursue their goals.

One of television's most watched celebrities, Bear Grylls launched a Survivalism Fever that has swept across the world. The former British Special Forces operative is best-known for taking his adventures in the planet's most hostile environments to the small screen. Similar to his acclaimed television shows, Grylls' keynotes grip audiences of all backgrounds, while sharing valuable lessons on grit, teamwork, and overcoming adversity to achieve your goals.

Grylls developed many of his outdoor survival skills during his three years of service in the British Special Forces. He made headlines in 1998, breaking the record for "youngest Briton to climb Mount Everest" at that time after he had spent a year and a half recovering from a parachuting accident that broke three of his vertebrae. Over the next decade, he built up a platform, leading various expeditions across land and sea to raise funds and awareness for children's charities and climate change.

Grylls' signature television series, Man vs. Wild, debuted on the Discovery Channel in 2006. His energetic demonstration of survival techniques combined with his breath-taking stunts drew in a weekly audience of 1.2 billion people. He went on to host several other series and specials including Bear Grylls Survival School, Mission Survive, and Running Wild with Bear Grylls, in which he led celebrities on two-day adventures. Some of his most noted guests were actor Michael B. Jordan, actress Kate Winslet, and former President Barack Obama.

Since 2009, Grylls has served as the UK Chief Scout, the ceremonial head of Britain's boy scout association. He is the best-selling author of 20 books that entail his adventures, moral code, and health routine.

Bear Grylls, Motivational Speaker: Keynote Excerpt
Play Video

Survivalist expert and motivational speaker, Bear Grylls describes pulling through a parachuting accident that broke his back in three places as well as the descent from Mount Everest that nearly killed him and his two companions. He pinpoints one key factor that gave him hope and enabled him to survive two of "the most hellish moments" of his life: a piece of advice he'd received when he joined the British Special Forces.

After a year of grueling trials and training that had whittled 180 candidates to four, a man Grylls had never seen before welcomed him and his three other comrades to the elite force with words that would dictate the rest of Grylls' life. "'The difference between ordinary and extraordinary is often just that little word, extra.'" he recalls the man's speech. "'The work that I'm going to ask you to do is going to be extraordinary, but what's going to make the difference is that when not one ounce of you thinks you can, you're the people who in this last year have shown me that you can turn around and give me that little bit extra.'"

CORE Agency Why do you enjoy public speaking and meeting audiences from around the world?

Bear Grylls
It is always the letters or emails afterwards from the audience that I love the most. They don't need to write and yet when they feel compelled to share something positive that helped them, I know it's real. For me it's these unsung –
and often unseen – audience members that are my reason for doing these talks.

CORE Agency Which of your keynote speaking topics are your favorites and why?

Bear Grylls
I often tell my story of climbing Everest... soon after breaking my back in the SAS (Special Air Service Reserves). It is a simple story of friendships, risk, determination and overcoming fears and doubts. At its heart it says never give up, go the extra mile, and show courage in the big moments. That message crosses so many boundaries into business and I love wrapping a business message up in a real adventure story that hopefully stays with people for a long time.

Facing the Frozen Ocean
It started out as a carefully calculated attempt to complete the first unassisted crossing of the frozen north Atlantic in an open rigid inflatable boat, but it became a terrifying battle against storm-force winds, crashing waves and icebergs as large as cathedrals. Starting from the remote north Canadian coastline, Grylls and his crew crossed the infamous Labrador Sea, pushed on through ice-strewn waters to Greenland and then found themselves isolated in a perfect storm 400 miles from Iceland. Compelling, vivid and inspirational, Facing the Frozen Ocean will appeal to all who like a good story and the inspiration to survive.
