- “Visual strategist” for NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, charged with transforming abstract technical concepts into meaningful stories we all can understand.
- A funny and inspiring speaker, Goods sees his mission as cultivating a sense of awe about the universe in everyday people.
- Named one of L.A. Weekly’s “most interesting people in Los Angeles."
Dan Goods is one of the nation’s leading creative problem solvers. A “visual strategist” for NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory by day, Goods oversees a team of professionals transforming abstract technical concepts into meaningful stories and developing innovative methods of communication. Goods’ team accomplishes tasks such as replicating the complex clouds of fog enveloping the planet Jupiter using ultrasonic misters, fans, and infared illuminators inside a large fish tank – in short, he takes on any task that helps the general public understand the amazing, highly complex information NASA analyzes on a daily basis.
Outside business hours, Goods devotes his time to solving creative problems around the world. Among other projects, he is developing “The Museum of Awe” with colleagues Ivan Amato and David Delgado.
While Goods wasn’t an especially strong student as a child, his fascination with science led him to test his curiosity through creative experimentation. He found his niche in the world of design, and went on to graduate as valedictorian from the Art Center College of Design. In 2012 L.A. Weekly named Goods one of the most interesting people in Los Angeles.
Dan Goods is a rare find in today’s highly technical world: a creative visionary who spends his life translating the leading edge of science into comprehensible terms. His work connects everyday people to the awe-inspiring world of the cosmos – and he isn’t afraid to poke fun at himself along the way, leavening his presentations with gentle, self-deprecating humor.
As might be expected of someone who’s made a profession of taking NASA research and rendering it intelligible to the rest of us, Goods is a clear and organized speaker. Audiences are ushered into the world of space research under the best of guidance.
Goods is fascinated by the reality that there are many things in this universe that exist, but cannot be seen with human eyes. Extending this principle into the metaphorical realms of politics, business, and our personal futures, Goods offers unique insight into how sometimes it’s not so much new technology that’s required to see these truths, but rather a change in perspective.
Seeing the Unseen
There are many things in the universe that exist, but cannot be seen with human eyes. This applies to the physical world as well as it does to politics, your business or your personal future. These thoughts have made an impact on Dan Goods life and work. Dan will share his remarkable artwork that brings you closer to an invisible world you never knew, while at the same time sharing his personal story of creating a career that did not formerly exist. With humor and grace, Dan distills complex and weighty concepts into stories that can be universally understood. Through his presentation, you will see that sometimes new technology is needed to see the invisible, but sometimes you just need a new perspective.
