- Motor sports legend on the Formula One and Indianapolis 500 racing circuits.
- Survivor of a near-fatal crash, Daly shares with audiences the tenacity and tactics that helped him return triumphant to the racing circuit three years later.
- With Irish wit and humor, Daly demonstrates how to turn vision into execution.
The sport of motor racing captivates many 12-year-olds, but few young men harbor the sheer force of will to labor in Australian iron ore mines, live in a converted school bus while touring the English race circuit, and ultimately overcome a near-fatal crash to return triumphant in the sport. Derek Daly, one of Formula One racing’s finest, has lived these experiences – and is prepared to regale audiences with Irish wit and humor as he instills lessons of perseverance and overcoming serious obstacles.
From humble origins in Dublin, Ireland, Daly eventually made it big in Formula One, where he took the lead in his very first competitive lap. Stateside, Daly made the first of his six appearances in the iconic Indianapolis 500 in 1983, but he was nearly killed the following year when he hit the Michigan Motor Speedway wall at 212 miles per hour. Fourteen surgeries and three years of therapy later, Daly not only returned to the professional circuit; he regained his place at the pinnacle. Among other laurels, Daly won the 12 Hours of Sebring endurance competition two years in a row.
Daly has seen – and experienced – both tragedy and triumph. His career was spent testing the limits of human and mechanical endurance. Now, he gains professional and personal satisfaction from sharing these experiences with his audiences.
"From the first time we spoke, I was completely convinced that Derek was the right choice. He was engaged, enthusiastic, completely on point and well prepared. He interpreted well where we are at a company and how to convey the message of leveraging speed to your advantage in today′s business environment... He was exceptionally well prepared, passionate, succinct, illustrative and entertaining and the team was riveted. They are still talking about it today, two days later. I have worked with many professional keynote speakers in my years of leading national sales meetings and have rarely come across someone as exceptional as Derek. I would highly recommend him to other organizations looking to take their business to the next level and create a winning culture."

Derek Daly’s sport pushes folks to the boundaries of human possibility. Both business and motor racing professionals might talk about “accelerating the vision,” but Daly has learned that the most important aspect of a vision is that vision’s execution. With trademark Irish wit and humor, Daly encourages his audiences to think about how they might execute their own visions, pushing beyond their boundaries to overcome obstacles and experience success.
Defeats and obstacles can sometimes teach us more than easy triumphs, and Daly’s near-tragic experience on the race track in 1984 leaves him better positioned than most to accurately convey the truth of how hard times can motivate us toward a better future. Daly regales audiences with tales of his time on the circuit, gently prodding us toward consideration of how our own obstacles and setbacks can become fuel for putting our visions into action.
