People can be better than they ever imagined by learning how to increase their emotional intelligence.

What do you want people to learn / take away from your presentations?
That people can be better than they ever imagined by learning how to increase their emotional intelligence.
What kind of special prep work do you do prior to an event? How do you prepare for your speaking engagements?
First, I get on the phone with the client who has invited me to come speak. Each client is different and I craft my EQ presentation to meet their needs. I ask many questions to set expectations for how and what I can deliver to meet their needs. Next, I prepare something that will knock their socks off.
It’s hard to understand why people were so nervous, but it was a very uncertain time.
| |
Have you had any particularly memorable speaking engagements / unusual situations arise while on the road?
Shortly after 9/11 a homeless man who had wandered into the venue through an open service door came into my session, walked up to the stage, and asked me for some water. He had many extra layers of clothing on which made people really nervous, because they thought he might have a bomb. I gave him some water and had him sit down and we took a little break so people could calm down. Looking back, it’s hard to understand why people were so nervous, but it was a very uncertain time. I asked my client if they sent him in as an EQ test for me.
Another time I sat next to Oakland A’s great Dave Stewart on a flight from a speaking engagement and we talked baseball the whole way home to San Diego.
What types of audiences would most benefit from your message?
It really runs the gamut, but I often speak to leaders, high potentials, sales, and engineering groups.
Which of your keynote speaking topics are your favorites and why?
Emotional intelligence, of course!
What inspired you to start doing speaking engagements?
The energy in the room. It’s palpable.
How much do case studies, personal stories and or humor factor into your keynote speech content?
I incorporate all three quite a bit.
I’ve been very fortunate to be able to help my clients succeed with EQ.
| |
What are some of the successes you've helped clients make?
